leadership

The leadership development programme at Theodor Herzl High School exists for students to learn the skills of communication, relationship building, and collaboration. Honing leadership skills is a journey – commencing in Grade 8 and culminating in Grade 12. Annual leadership elections are held and members of clubs and teams vote for the respective Forums and Prefects

Theodorians have different leadership opportunities throughout their schooling career.

Grade 8 to 12 students could be elected by their peers, as a class representative. Class representatives are mentored by the responsible staff member.

Grade 10 to 12 students can be elected to serve on the Culture, Sport, Judaica and Service Forums. Forum members take the lead in organising activities and running assemblies

Students can be elected as House Captains and captains of the respective sporting codes.
The Grade 11 leadership programme starts with a Leadership Camp focusing on conflict management, time management and exploring leadership styles. Afterward, Grade 11 students can make themselves available to be elected as a prefect.

interact

The definition of the word, “Interact” is to act in such a way as to have an effect on each other. It is a verb and means to be directly involved. Interact does just that, it encourages students at our school to be involved with the greater community of Port Elizabeth.
Various things that Interact has done this year includes hoodie day, flip flop day and friendship day roses where money was raised for various organisations in our community.
Our school is also involved in the making of sandwiches for OneLife Child and mosaic. At the beginning of next term, Interact will start going to v isit the children at OneLife child and help them with homework and studying. I’m very excited for this initiative as it will be great to see students from Theodor using our skills and the things we’ve learned here, to help others who haven’t had the privilege of receiving a quality education.

the president’s award

The Award Programme is a great way to develop new skills, friendships, experiences and memories that will last and broaden your career prospects, whilst having fun. The Award can also count towards high school leaving certificates, as well as points for admission to tertiary institutions. Many Award holders report having received discounts when applying at university.
